A plane missed its target!
Hamid is 11 years old. He lives with his mother, five sisters, one brother and three other families in a small house in Khaikhana, a district of Kabul. His father died from cancer three years ago. In 2003, a coalition attack on a nearby military camp missed its target, and accidentally dropped its bomb on the playground where Hamid and four of his friends were playing football.
Two houses were destroyed and 26 people killed, including one of the children. Hamid was also injured by one of the submunitions. He was taken to the nearest hospital where his right leg had to be amputated.
He was fitted with a prosthesis, which has to be replaced regularly as he is growing up very quickly. In spite of his accident, Hamid is as determined and persevering as ever: his school results are very good, especially in mathematics. He is second in his class and dreams of becoming a doctor.
